Product Description
Soapstone, also known as Steatite, is a metamorphic rock composed primarily of talc (Mg₃Si₄O₁₀(OH)₂). Known for its soft texture, heat resistance and ease of carving, soapstone is widely used in ceramics, carving, insulation, construction and industrial talc production.
Available Forms
- Raw blocks (50–300 mm)
- Lumps (20–80 mm)
- Raw talc stone in white, grey, cream and green tones
- Industrial-grade and artisan-grade options
Technical Properties
- Hardness: 1–2 Mohs
- Excellent thermal resistance
- Easy to cut and carve
- Chemically stable and non-toxic
- Smooth “soap-like” texture
Industrial Uses and Applications
- Ceramics: refractory materials, tiles and glazing compounds.
- Electrical insulation: steatite components for industry.
- Industrial talc: raw feedstock for fine milling.
- Carving & decoration: sculptures, bowls, lamps and artisan products.
- Construction: countertops and heat-resistant surfaces.
- Laboratories: heat-resistant plates and containers.
Extraction and Processing
Soapstone is extracted from metamorphic deposits, cut, sorted by color and density, washed and classified for industrial or artisanal use. It may also be crushed or milled for talc-based applications.
Main origins include Pakistan, India, Brazil, Finland and South Africa.
